Vacancies

Looking for a new job or looking for extra work can be daunting. At NES we make it easier by finding the right vacancy for you.

Even if you are not available to work now, you may consider doing locum work or need a substantive placement in the future, so once we have all the information we need, we can get you working as soon as you are ready.

We can offer you three basic types of work: short and long-term locums and substantive introductions (a full-time placement).

Short-term locums

Short-term work comes in at very short notice; weekend work normally on a Thursday or Friday and evening work on the same day. Doctors doing this type of work need to be flexible as the start and end times can vary at short notice. When you consider a locum position please let us know the times you are able to arrive and leave. You are paid for the hours that you actually work.

Long-term locums

Long-term locum work comes from the need to cover unfilled posts or unexpected events, such as doctors taking holidays or falling sick. Most placements are for one or two weeks initially, although they are often extended. We are normally notified about vacancies the week before they are due to start but sometimes we get longer notice. You may need to be flexible regarding location to be fully employed.

Substantive introductions

NES will try to find an appropriate full-time/substantive job for you. This service is free of charge to you as we charge our clients an introduction fee for any placement we make. Once we have found a suitable position for you and you are successful in the recruitment process, you will become an employee of our client hospital.

Your CV / Resume Back to top

Keeping your CV up to date with full details of your experience can really set you apart from the rest,  so it is important to include all of your work history, (including an locum work) starting with your most recent position first.

If there are any gaps in your CV, such as a prolonged period of time between your qualification and your GMC registration, you should include details of what you did during that time. If you started a job and left it after a short time, you should still include it in your CV.

To make life easier for you we have designed a comprehensive CV template to record all your experience & qualifications.  Please let us know if you would like a template.

  Payments Back to top

Locum pay

You will receive your pay by cheque or paid directly into your bank/building society via the BACS system. We will pay you within 7 days of receiving your timesheet subject to the approval of the hours worked.

Substantive pay

NES will act as your agent to always ensure that you receive a competitive salary for substantive placements.

  Holiday Pay Back to top

If you’re working as a locum for NES you are entitled to holiday pay to a maximum of four weeks in any one year and start to earn it from the first hour you work. The simple way to calculate this is for every 13 hours you work, you earn 1 hour of paid holiday pay.

(If you are working as a locum for NES in a training grade position you are not entitled to holiday pay.)

  Travelling Expenses Back to top

Travel expenses are discretionary so are not always paid but you will be advised of the situation before you are put forward for a post. You should retain receipts and complete the travel expenses section of your timesheet, continuing on a separate sheet of paper if necessary.

Attach all your tickets and any extra sheets to the timesheet and post or fax it to your Recruitment Manager. If you have any queries please contact your Recruitment Manager.

  Timesheets Back to top

You will be sent a timesheet along with your booking confirmation. You should carefully fill in the details, then the timesheet must be signed by an authorised member of staff and sent back to us as soon as possible. No payment will be made on unauthorised timesheets.
